Program Description:

Embark on a captivating journey through the realms of biology, physics, geology, and astronomy in this dynamic and interactive course. "Exploring Science: From Fungi to the Cosmos" is designed for 11-14 year olds, offering a unique blend of theoretical concepts and hands-on activities to foster a profound understanding of the natural world. Through an engaging and enriching exploration of the natural world, we encourage students to not only grasp theoretical concepts but to also develop a lifelong passion for scientific inquiry. This series aims to blend theoretical concepts with hands-on activities, fostering a deeper understanding of the topics through practical exploration and experimentation.

Module 1: Fungi, Mold, Yeast, and Mushrooms | Dive into the fascinating kingdom of fungi as we explore their diverse roles in our ecosystem. From observing fungi in their natural habitat to cultivating edible mushrooms, students engage in activities that deepen their appreciation for these remarkable organisms. Hands-on experiments, such as observing mold growth on various food items and witnessing real-time fermentation, provide an immersive learning experience.

Module 2: Technology in Physics | Unveil the marriage of technology and physics as we venture into the world of simulations and motion detection apps. From measuring speed using cutting-edge technology to constructing mousetrap cars for experiments in linear motion, students grasp the profound impact of technology on physics research.

Module 3: Technology in Geology | Embark on a virtual field trip using geological apps and delve into the intricate layers of Earth's spheres. Engage in hands-on activities like building models representing Earth's spheres, creating geological maps, and simulating plate tectonics. Discussions on the pivotal role of technology in geological exploration enhance students' understanding of our planet's dynamic forces.

Module 4: Technology in Astronomy | Explore the vast expanse of the universe through technology-enhanced astronomical experiences. From identifying constellations using apps to building sundials for understanding time in celestial bodies, students witness the transformative impact of technology on our understanding of the cosmos. A virtual tour of exoplanets and discussions on the search for habitable worlds beyond our solar system to ignite the curiosity of budding astronomers.

Final: Integration and Review | A culmination of the course with an integrative scholar-led project. Scholars design a space mission using the knowledge gained throughout the course. Through presentations, they reflect upon their understanding of the interconnected scientific disciplines explored, making their learning a more tangible and memorable experience.
